Langmeier Backup FAQ
With these pro tips, Langmeier backup runs faster!
If you re wondering if Langmeier Backup can perform backups faster, there are solutions. In fact, often the backup can be made little to much faster with the right program settings.
Set the following settings in the program to speed up the backup process:
- Create a hard disk image, specifically for the operating system partition, instead of a file backup. A hard disk image backup technically happens in a single go, whereas a file backup has to open and process each file individually. For instructions on how to create a hard drive image, see here.
- A hard disk image backup will then be a little faster if you select around 700 MB when splitting.
- In the „Setup“ wizard, at the third working step, uncheck „Automatic generation backup“
- In the main window, check the box for "Backup changed files only"
- In the options under the „Expert Settings“ tab, set the "Check archive bit for selection of files to back up" option.
- Uncheck „Back up open files as well“.
- In the „Settings for this job“ uncheck the „Verify backup“ option.
- In the „Setup“ wizard, uncheck „Encryption“.
- In the „Setup“ wizard, uncheck „Zip Compression“.
- Double-click on a path to be backed up in the main window and under the „Include/Exclude“ tab, exclude unimportant files (e.g., temporary folders).
If you operate the PC during the backup of Langmeier Backup, then the backup speed of Langmeier Backup is deliberately reduced somewhat so that you can continue to work more fluently with the PC. However, this mainly matters for weaker computers and is practically irrelevant for strong computers.
To still run the backup with a full load, place the backup in work breaks with a schedule job. For example, under Schedule, set the following: „Start backup: when idle for 15 minutes“. This way, the backup is started during work breaks and is sure to run at full speed.
