Company anniversary

A look back at 20 years of company history. The story of our founder.

20 years ago today, the Swiss software company Langmeier Software saw the light of day.A look back at the company history of our founder Urs Langmeier.

In a secluded corner of a simple cellar in Switzerland, eleven-year-old Urs Langmeier discovered something that would change his life forever. Hidden under dust and old books, he found an unused computer, a relic from times gone by. With childlike curiosity and determination, he lifted the heavy screen onto the table, connected the numerous cables and hopefully pressed the round power button. His big eyes fixed on the screen, eager to see what would follow.

A green "Ready" lit up on the screen, accompanied by a flashing cursor. It was an invitation to a new world, a world of unlimited possibilities. Urs grabbed the manual that was still in the cardboard box and began to follow the instructions. But despite his eagerness and persistence, nothing seemed to work. Error messages followed error messages, and Urs felt a mixture of frustration and curiosity.

Then, in a moment of enlightenment, he discovered his mistake: he had missed entering the name of the program in the quotation marks. When he corrected this small but crucial step, the computer came to life. At that moment, when the screen was filled with life, Urs clicked. He promised himself that he would use the computer more intelligently and thoughtfully from then on. This moment marked the beginning of his lifelong fascination with information technology.

In the years that followed, Urs spent every free minute he had at school on this computer. He immersed himself in the world of programming, experimented with various programs and began to develop his own programs. His passion was so great that he devoted all his free time to the computer, driven by an insatiable curiosity and the urge to create something new.

In the Jungwacht, a youth organization to which he belonged, Urs shared his newly developed programs and games with his friends. He brought floppy disks on which he saved his new developments and creations. His friends were thrilled and received the disks with great enthusiasm, always eager for more. This early recognition of his work was a powerful motivator for Urs. It drove him to further develop his skills and write even better programs.

It was during these formative years that Urs' father pointed out to him the changes in the world of technology, particularly the transition from MS-DOS to Windows. This insight opened Urs' eyes to the need to constantly evolve and adapt to the rapidly changing technology landscape.

Driven by these early experiences, Urs began to shape his own future. He took his first job at Balzano Informatik AG, where he worked on developing ERP software for universities and colleges. But his true passion lay in developing his own programs. In his spare time, he developed a backup program that saved data to external hard drives - a program that would soon attract the attention of many.

The reactions to Urs' backup program exceeded his wildest expectations. He was inundated with emails and phone calls from interested parties, potential partners and customers. It was a turning point that prompted Urs to leave his secure job and put all his eggs in one basket. He founded his own company, Langmeier Software, and set out to revolutionize the world of data security.

Urs Langmeier's story is one of curiosity, determination and the constant search for improvement. From humble beginnings in a basement in Switzerland to founding his own successful company, it symbolizes the unwavering spirit of a true pioneer in the world of technology.

After Urs Langmeier founded his own company, Langmeier Software, he began a period of intense work and dedication. His backup program, an innovative and reliable solution for backing up data to external hard drives, was quickly well received in the IT community. Demand grew rapidly and Urs found himself in a world where his product filled an urgent need.

It wasn't just the technical brilliance of his backup program that attracted attention. It was also Urs' understanding of his customers' needs and his ability to answer complex problems with simple, effective solutions. He had developed a revolutionary and highly compatible backup solution that was ideal for both individuals and companies.

However, as often happens in stories of innovation and entrepreneurship, Urs Langmeier also suffered an unexpected setback. Despite initial success and a growing customer base, Langmeier Software suddenly experienced a slump in sales. For Urs, who had put his heart and soul into the company, this was a deep blow. He was faced with a difficult decision: should he carry on and try to steer the company through these turbulent times, or should he give up?

It was during these dark days that Urs' true character was revealed. Despite financial difficulties and uncertainty, he remained loyal to his first employee and made sure he was paid before him. It was a testament to his integrity and strong moral compass. During this time of hardship, the strength of the human connection was also evident as his employee stood by him and helped him in his time of need.

After this period of struggle and uncertainty, Urs and Langmeier Software began to rebuild. Urs accepted a consulting assignment to create an online store for an online printing company. It was a challenging project that put his leadership and problem-solving skills to the test. Despite initial difficulties and pressure from the client, Urs realized that the solution lay in a more efficient project management and ticketing system. With this realization and his technical know-how, he was able to successfully complete the project in record time.

This experience was a revelation for Urs. It showed him that he was not only capable of developing excellent software, but also of managing complex projects and leading them to success. Inspired by this realization, he led Langmeier Software with new energy and vision.

Under his leadership, the company developed further innovative products such as aBusiness Suite and the chatbot communication tool Langly. Urs' vision of creating new companies at the touch of a button and having them run by a robot CEO reflects his relentless drive for innovation and improvement. He set himself the goal of further simplifying the user interfaces of his tools, maximizing the user experience and driving forward the integration of artificial intelligence.

Today, Urs Langmeier is a symbol of determination, innovation and entrepreneurial vision. His journey, from humble beginnings in a Swiss basement to the top of the technology world, is an inspiration to all who dream of changing the world through their ideas.
