Langmeier Backup FAQ

Restore computers with the Langmeier backup rescue medium

The Langmeier Backup rescue medium is a bootable medium that enables users to restore their system if it no longer boots properly.

With the rescue medium you can access your backed up data and restore your system from a previously created image backup.

The rescue medium is an indispensable tool in the event of system failures, malware infections or other problems that require system recovery.

Creating the rescue medium with Langmeier Backup

To create a rescue medium in Langmeier Backup, please follow these steps:

1. open Langmeier Backup on your computer.

2) Go to the "Tools" tab and then click on "Create rescue medium".

4. follow the instructions on the screen to create the rescue medium on a USB stick or CD/DVD. For virtual machines, you can also create an ISO file here.

5. once the process is complete, you will have created a bootable rescue medium that you can use to restore your system.

Restoring a computer with the Langmeier backup recovery medium

To restore a computer, you need a disk image backup and a bootable rescue medium. Copy the disk image backup to an external USB hard drive and have your previously created rescue medium ready. If you have both to hand, boot your computer with the rescue medium.

If you try to start the rescue medium but always boot directly into Windows instead, there may be various reasons for this.

Here are some possible solutions that you can try if booting with the rescue media does not work:

1. change the boot order in the BIOS/UEFI

  • Restart your computer and press the appropriate key (e.g. F2, F12, ESC) during the boot process to enter the BIOS or UEFI.
  • Search for the boot or startup options and change the boot order so that the boot stick comes first.
  • Save the settings and restart the computer.

2. ensure that the boot stick is bootable:

  • Check that the boot stick has been created correctly and is bootable.
  • You can try testing the boot stick on another computer to make sure it works.

3. enable legacy mode:

  • Some systems may require legacy mode to boot from a boot stick.
  • Go into BIOS/UEFI and enable legacy mode if it is available.

4. disable fast boot:

  • Windows power settings may have fast startup enabled, which can interfere with booting from external media.
  • Disable fast boot and try again.

5. disable secure boot:

  • Sometimes Secure Boot can prevent booting from unsigned media.
  • Disable Secure Boot in BIOS/UEFI and try again.
