Langmeier Backup FAQ
How to back up the hard disk correctly and not forget anything
![]() Most, if not all, data backups involve a hard disk somewhere. There are other backup media such as DVDs and magnetic tapes, but the hard disk dominates. It therefore seems obvious to us to provide you with a somewhat unorthodox overview here, not by function, but by the element of the hard disk in the data backup. In these four topics, we will show you how our backup software supports you in the following areas:
Hard disk backupAt Langmeier Software, we consider backing up to an external hard disk to be a good method of securing your own data. Since hard disks contain huge volumes of data, they are also suitable for creating an entire image of Windows and additionally backing up personal data for faster access. The backup to the hard disk should be made regularly, at least once a month, because it is also important to test whether the hard disk backup is still working. Unfortunately, in rare cases it can happen that the drive suffers a hard disk crash, as a result of which the data is no longer readable and you have to buy a new hard disk. If you have opted for an SSD hard disk with flash memory from the outset, this will not happen to you, as this type of hard disk no longer has a drive. In terms of price, however, it is considerably more expensive than HDD technology with a drive. Mirroring hard disks is also possible with Langmeier Backup. To do this, create a new backup task and select Hard disk image backup. Not only the hard disk C: with the Windows operating system can be backed up in this way, but also other hard disks or partitions can be backed up or mirrored as an image. Would you like to know more about the difference between image backups and file backups? Another frequently requested function is hard disk synchronization. This can be configured with Langmeier Backup in the "Settings for the current job". Select the option "Synchronization: Remove deleted files also on the backup medium" and your original and backup hard disk will always contain the same data. Is the hard disk backup still not secure enough for you?We have a few more tips for you
Data backup external hard driveMany of our users do not use an external hard disk for data backup, but to store additional data. This is also no problem at all with Langmeier Backup. You can use all the functions that you use for backing up your computer data for backing up your external hard disk: You can back up data to the external hard disk once or at regular intervals. The external hard disk can easily be mirrored to the second external hard disk that is only used for the backup, for example, or only certain data can be backed up. Again, make sure that you back up the external hard disk regularly. Especially if you are not backing up an image of Windows, but "only" data, it is easier to forget to back up regularly. Synchronize drives: You can also synchronize the external hard drive with a second external hard drive. Encrypt hard diskLangmeier Backup also offers this function, but only for backups. Whether the original data is already encrypted depends on you. In any case, you can encrypt the backup of the hard disk. To do this, however, you must purchase a Langmeier Backup Business license. Which Windows version you have installed does not matter with Langmeier Backup. Whether you encrypt the backup of the hard disk with Windows 7 or encrypt the hard disk with Windows 8, the functionalities are identical. And - you've probably already guessed it - encrypting the hard disk backup with Windows 10 also works without any problems. Restore hard diskIf you have taken precautions with Langmeier Backup by making regular image backups of entire hard disks or partitions, then you don't have to worry if it becomes necessary to restore your operating system. We have explained exactly how this works with Langmeier Backup here. Remember to create a bootable emergency medium. Then restoring the Windows operating system or restoring hard disks is really child's play. Data recovery: If you take good precautions regarding your own data backup on hard disk - whether we are talking about data backup on external hard disk or internal hard disk - then you will never have to rely on costly hard disk data recovery, where you can also never be sure whether all your valuable data can really be recovered through data recovery from hard disk.
